Hi Barry, I just want to say how much I appreciate your work and this beautiful summation and clarification of its main points, which are profoundly liberating. You and your books and talks have touched me very deeply, as I hope you know, and continue to do so. You stand out in my mind as one of the truly great contemporary Zen teachers. Thank you🙏

Hey! I like this post. The emphasis on the "bottom up" perspective makes sense - and makes it easier to dodge the pitfalls of seeking "enlightenment" and allowing versus actively bringing about change. If the perspective is from where I am this moment, rather than where I am in a broader sense, impermanence is real and what is yet to arise is still not fixed.

This is, for me, what being "awake" is really about, whether related to a formal practice or not...although having access to the terminology does give a way of talking about it 😂
